Home insurance in Italy: what to know
Moonety is an insurance broker registered with IVASS in Section B of the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI) under number B000818533. A broker acts on behalf of the client, not the insurance company, and selects cover on the insurance market.
Insurance premiums paid through Moonety are held in a dedicated bank account pursuant to Article 117 of the Italian Insurance Code (CAP): a separate estate that cannot be claimed by the intermediary’s creditors.
For properties bought with a mortgage, fire and explosion cover is a standard condition of Italian mortgages, and the client can choose the insurance company as long as the guarantees are equivalent. Life insurance is not required by law to obtain a mortgage.
As of 2026, Law 213/2023 makes natural catastrophe insurance mandatory for businesses, while for private homeowners it remains optional and should be assessed property by property.
Moonety serves Italian and international clients, including non-resident buyers, expatriates, new tax residents and family offices who own or are buying property in Italy.

Frequently asked questions
Is IBBC Brokers still active?
The IBBC Brokers brand is no longer in use. The insurance brokerage services previously offered under that name are now provided by Moonety S.B. S.r.l., an Italian company registered with IVASS as an insurance broker under RUI number B000818533 (Section B) and with the OAM as a credit mediator under number M675. Former and new clients can contact Moonety at info@moonety.com or on WhatsApp at +39 320 330 8159.
Are my current insurance policies still valid?
Yes. Policies in force remain valid under their existing terms with the respective insurance companies: coverage, sums insured and expiry dates do not change because of the transition. Assistance, changes, renewals and claims handling are now managed by Moonety S.B. S.r.l. If any document needs to be updated, the Moonety team will contact the client directly.
How do I report a claim?
Write to info@moonety.com, stating the policy number, the date and place of the event and a brief description of what happened, attaching photos or documents if available; alternatively, call one of the numbers on this page. Report the claim as soon as possible: under Article 1913 of the Italian Civil Code, notice must generally be given within three days of becoming aware of the event, unless the policy provides otherwise. The Moonety team assists the client in every step with the insurance company.
What is the difference between an insurance broker and an insurance agent?
In Italy, insurance agents are listed in Section A of the IVASS Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI) and act on behalf of the insurance companies they represent. Brokers are listed in Section B and act on behalf of the client, without powers of representation for the insurers. Moonety is a broker registered in Section B under number B000818533: it analyzes the client’s risks and selects cover on the insurance market.
Is Moonety an insurance company?
No. Moonety S.B. S.r.l. is an insurance broker. Policies are issued by insurance companies, which bear the risk and pay the claims; Moonety assists the client in selecting, managing and using the cover, from the first analysis to renewals and claims.
Where are my insurance premiums held?
Premiums paid through Moonety are held in a dedicated bank account pursuant to Article 117 of the Italian Insurance Code (CAP). This account forms a separate estate, distinct from the assets of the intermediary, and cannot be claimed by the intermediary’s creditors. Moonety uses the dedicated account, not the alternative bank guarantee allowed by the law.
Is insurance required to get a mortgage in Italy?
Fire and explosion cover on the mortgaged property is a standard condition of Italian mortgages, and the client can choose the insurance company as long as the policy offers equivalent guarantees. Life insurance is not required by law. If a bank makes the loan conditional on a life policy, Article 28 of Decree-Law 1/2012 requires it to present at least two quotes from insurance groups not related to it, and to accept an equivalent policy chosen by the client on the market. As a registered insurance broker, Moonety helps clients compare these options.
Is earthquake and flood insurance mandatory in Italy?
As of 2026, Law 213/2023 requires businesses to insure their property against natural catastrophes such as earthquakes, floods and landslides. The obligation does not apply to private homeowners, for whom catastrophe cover remains optional. Given the seismic and hydrogeological exposure of many Italian areas, it is advisable to assess it for every property.
Where can I verify Moonety's registrations?
On the IVASS Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI), Section B, under number B000818533, and on the OAM Register of Credit Mediators, under number M675. Both registers are public and free to consult online, with no login required.
